The Sindh High Court on Monday restrained the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) from taking any action against a wedding lawn in Bahadurabad until April 27.
A division bench also issued notices to the provincial chief secretary, the KMC administrator, the KMC anti-encroachment cell and others to file comments by the next date of hearing.
The court was informed that the Bahadur Yar Jang Cooperative Housing Society had in 2011 leased out a plot in Block 3, Bahadurabad, to the Bahadurabad Club Private Limited for setting up a club for the society's members.
The club's management, in order to run its affairs smoothly and manage its expenses, entered into an agreement with the petitioners and allotted a portion of the club to them for establishing a wedding lawn. The owners of the lawn claimed that after the expiry of the lease, it was renewed for two years in February 2015.
The petitioner's lawyer said that the local government minister was spearheading a crackdown against encroachments on the city's amenity plots, under which the KMC wanted to raze their lawn.
The court was pleaded to restrain the civic authorities from demolishing the petitioner's wedding lawn.
