Main accomplice in Dr Imran Farooq murder arrested in Karachi: Nisar

Nisar says accomplice will be presented to a court in Karachi on Tuesday

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar claimed on Monday the facilitator of two alleged killers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s leader Dr Imran Farooq has been arrested in Karachi.

“The man responsible for arranging visas, tickets and stay in England of the two suspected killers of Dr Imran Farooq has been arrested,” the interior minister said, while addressing the media in Islamabad.

Nisar added the suspect will be presented to a court in Karachi on Tuesday. However, the interior minister refrained from divulging in any further details and identity of the arrested.

The interior minister once again clarified the investigation in the MQM leader’s case are “not politically motivated.”

“The investigations are being carried out because those responsible need to be brought to justice,” he added.

Claiming that progress is increasingly being made in the leader’s murder case, Nisar said the government will form a joint investigation team to probe the killing in the next two days.

“There are international repercussions of this case so they will be a part of the JIT as well.”

Nisar further said, “For the past year, Imran Farooq murder case was not only a test for UK but also a test for Pakistan.”

“We shared information with British government and Scotland Yard,” the interior minister said, adding the exchange of information led to progress in investigations.

Hashmi | 9 years ago | Reply I would think that solving Dr. Imran Farooq's murder case would be a greater priority for the British authorities which take an unsolved murder on their soil as a big blot on their performance. However, we do not see the British Home Secretary appearing on television and making big announcements whenever some development took place, and it is left to the concerned authorities to deal with the matter. In fact, if the British Home Secretary made any announcements on such occasions, he would be taken to task as it will be considered an attempt by him to influence the authorities involved with the case, poisoning their minds against the accused and thus making it impossible for him to get justice. In comparison to the above, the practice in Pakistan is exact opposite. And like all other things, even a murder case is taken as a tool, to be used on special occasions in conjunction with other measures in order to achieve a particular objective. As such, whenever any development about Imran Farooq murder case takes place, we see our Federal Interior Minister on television, announcing the event and expressing his precious opinion about the case. And apart from prejudicing the case of the accused, such manoeuvres demonstrate a sick mentality and small-mindedness. Perhaps because of lack of capability to take on big problems he seeks glory in little things with which he feels at ease. We all remember him taking charge of the 'grand operation' against the gunman Sikandar who, with a wife and two kids, held up Islamabad nearly the whole day. The embarrassment finally came to an end with the unscheduled interruption of Zamurrud Khan otherwise we don't know how long the sordid drama would have gone on. Filling all important positions from within his pool of inept and/or corrupt relatives, friends and associates is the greatest injustice that Nawaz Sharif has done to the country. Unfortunately for us, those having powers to change the scenario also seem to be quite comfortable with the situation. Karachi

Aslam Baig faced the discrimination as wrote by them in their books and reveal in interview then how a single migrated person said that it never happened to him.

Pakistani | 9 years ago | Reply So all the people of Karachi who have been arrested / murdered / persecuted / slaughtered by the so called law enforcing agencies for the past 30 years were gamblers and criminals (according to PTI supporters here). And what has PTI done for the people of Karachi in the past 19 years since Imran Khan elected Dr. Alvi to stand in 1997 elections from North Nazimabad. Finally, a deal has been signed between establishment and the right wingers with the extremist vision and intent, to dig a grave for the only symbolic liberal party, MQM. Similar graves were dug when the novice audience here on ET were in their childhood, yet MQM has stood out of all these precarious times. I, as a Karachite, want army to be deployed at NA - 246 or who so ever PTI thinks are the law enforcers, and I want this done, so MQM supporters prove that their vote is only for empowering the people and for the prolonged change they have been working for. PTI & their ancestors JI should stop their 30 year old traditions and hypocrisy in politics. People in NA - 246 are literate enough to decide for themselves, so leave the decision on them. Remember, every MQM supporter is the supporter of Pakistan and has to abide by the Constitution and law of the land. We believe in the transformation of Pakistan, and that can only come through empowerment of every single person of our nation.

I used to support MQM just because of the fact that it represented urdu-speaking community or I thought so. Reality is that MQM is only a piece of filth which needs to be eradicated from the society at all cost. Period.

MJ | 9 years ago | Reply I belong to the Urdu speaking community and grew up in Karachi. Naturally I supported MQM because of the discrimination that I face on a daily basis. I supported the idea of having a representative of the Urdu speaking community (sadly on linguistic basis) because that was how they were being singled out. What supporters of MQM fail to understand is that your loyalty should be with the idea behind the movement, if you are convinced that they are right, rather than one or the other person. When people are raised to the status of prophets and messengers, the resulting personality cults bring nothing but disaster in the long run. If Altaf Hussain cannot transfer the total control of MQM to someone young, local (in Pakistan) and trust worthy & popular (like Mustafa Kamal was) then what is the difference between him and PTI chairman Imran Khan which is also a personality cult. Altaf has recently become a liability for MQM as after his rants during his speeches party supporters leave with their jaws dropped and heads shaking wondering how they are going to answer the people making fun of their leader in person and on social media. PTI has turned out to be a one man show as well. Imran has not been able to create a strong central leadership in 20 years and was forced to give PTI tickets during last elections to a large number of same old "professional" politicians that are commonly referred to as Lotas. I was really excited to see PTI come up in the beginning as I was looking up to it as a game changer in the stagnant Pakistani politics. But how this party is being used by the "establishment", first against PMLN and now against MQM, combined with the ever changing stances and statement of Imran Khan has made me lose all credibility of it's leader as well as the stance of the party.

They had all the powers of interior ministry Sindh during Pervez Musharraf's rule. Did MQM's interior minister for Sind arrest the killers of Mr. Altaf Hussain's brother and nephew ? or ordered an investigation into the case ? Apparently MQM did not as we never heard them uttering a word on the case while in governments.

This biased thinking has caused Balochistan to what it is today. I dread the same unjust treatment could covert Karachi too unless the people in power learn to be Just!

Rumour has it that they have been tortured to death during investigation. The rumour seems to be true as only facilitator is being presented in court and not the killers.
