Countering terror: Senate to take up debate on NAP implementation

House to open discussion on resolution moved by Sitara Ayaz and motion of Mushahid Husain Syed

ISLAMABAD: The Senate will echo with debate on the progress in the implementation of the counter-terror National Action Plan (NAP) when the session opens on Monday (today).

The 20-point counterterrorism strategy was unanimously adopted by the country’s leadership in the wake of the December 16 terror attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar.

The upper house of parliament will take up discussions on a resolution moved by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Senator Sitara Ayaz which stated, “This House recommends that the government should take effective steps for implementation of NAP to counter terrorism in the country.”



Approving for debate, Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani had also issued notices to all relevant stakeholders on a motion moved by Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed. The motion was listed for debate during the current session of Senate.

Senator Syed told The Express Tribune that he would request for briefing on the progress in the implementation of NAP. “We are part of this plan and want to know what the hurdles are in implementing the action plan,” PML-Q’s Senator said. Mushahid said he would also ask the Nawaz-government about the coordination mechanism for NAP.
