Journalists talk to students about the media as they know it
News anchors discuss role, scope of electronic media.
KARACHI:
To prepare the city's youth for working in the media industry, a training and career development session titled 'Second Transforming Youth Media Summit 2015,' was held at Movenpick Hotel on Saturday.
Celebrities, former ministers, journalists and artists, including Javed Jabbar, Yousuf Bashir Qureshi, Wajih Sani and Shehzad Khan, were invited to train students from different universities who want to work in the industry.
Artist Yousuf Bashir Qureshi told the students that in order to be successful, one should follow aims that one has set for his or herself. "Live your passions," he said.
Rehan Allawala, a social media expert and faculty member at the Indus University, discussed the emerging role of social media with the students.
News anchors, Wajih Sani and Shehzad Khan, briefed the students about the role and scope of electronic media. "These days electronic media is very important. People working in the field must stay positive," said Khan, adding that the demand and scope of the medium was constantly increasing. "In Pakistan, electronic media is the first to report on issues [for the public]. This is one of the reasons we must remain positive."
The students also got a chance to note down some photography tips from photographer and producer, Israr Shah, at the seminar.
For an international perspective, the organisers had also invited the ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, Jesper Moller Sorenson, who spoke to the students about how fast the media was growing. Afterwards, a panel discussion was with the students in which they discussed media policies, the role of the media along with future challenges and opportunities in the field.
Students asked the panelists about how demanding their jobs were and what they enjoyed most about their work.
