An oral polio vaccine (OPV) campaign will start across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The drive is part of Sehat ka Ittehad, a joint initiative of the provincial and federal governments.

Around 1.46 million children under the age of five will be inoculated against poliovirus in 24 districts, stated a handout issued on Sunday.

According to statistics provided by the health department’s polio emergency operation centre (EOC), the campaign will be carried out in 230 union councils, including seven in Abbottabad, 13 in Bannu, two in Battagram, 19 in Charsadda, 17 in DI Khan, two in Lower Dir and five each in Upper Dir and Hangu, considered to be high-risk areas.

A total of 4,240 mobile and 395 fixed teams have been deputed while 141 transit points have also been set up across the province.

Polio vaccines have been delivered to the districts and logistic support has also been provided to local officials to ensure the mobility and access of polio teams to targeted areas.
