RAWALPINDI: A shopping festival will begin in all major markets of Rawalpindi simultaneously from May 2 aimed at reviving trade activity in the city disturbed due to the ongoing construction work on metro bus project.
During the festival, a large number of items will be put available on discounted prices at various shops in the city.
The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) President, Syed Asad Mashadi made this announcement, while talking to media persons here on Saturday.
He said that the basic idea behind organising the festival was to promote and revive business activity in the city.
The RCCI president said that the festival had been planned to compensate for the damage caused to business activity in the city due to the ongoing construction work on the metro bus project.
Mashadi said that initially the Rawal Shopping Festival was announced to be held during the first week of April but due to the delay in the completion of the metro bus project, the RCCI too has decided to extend the dates for the festival.
Mashadi said that the Rawalpindi Commissioner, Zahid Saeed had also assured the traders that development work on these roads would be completed before the start of the festival.
The Cantonment Board Executive Officer, Fahim Zafar said that they were taking special measures to complete development works in the cantonment area before the start of the festival.
Mashadi urged the residents of the twin cities to visit and enjoy the festival.
The festival will continue till May 10.
