ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has constituted an eight-member task force headed by Ishaq Khan Khakwani to specifically deal with all the matters regarding the inquiry commission, which is probing into the alleged rigging of the May 2013 general elections.

Other members of the task force include Dr Arif Alvi, Azam Swati, Ejaz Chaudhry, Shoaib Siddiqui and three lawyers.

PTI Secretary General Jehangir Tareen issued the notification on Saturday, a copy of which has been obtained by The Express Tribune.

The notification states that the task force may co-opt members including an investigative, legal and media team.

Further, sources told The Express Tribune that the task force is also currently getting legal assistance from other top jurists as well, adding that Hafeez Peerzada has also been contacted in this regard.

It should be noted that the old legal team of the PTI has remained distant to pursue the party case and has not nominated senior lawyers from the party such as Hamid Khan, Ahmad Awais and Qazi Anwar in the task force.

“Hamid Khan has some reservations with the party leadership over their criticism of former CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry,” revealed a member of the PTI’s previous legal team.

“Therefore, it is not possible for us to present the party’s case before the commission,” he added.

PTI has already sought analysis reports from the country’s top registration authority in respect to at least 37 constituencies to probe into the alleged rigging in the May 2013 elections.

Also, PTI General Secretary Jehangir Tareen has written a letter to the chairman of the National Database Regulatory Authority (NADRA) Usman Yousaf Mobeen seeking a full set of its analysis reports before April 15.
