The Inspector General of Punjab Police (Prisons) was on Friday asked to appear in person before the Lahore High Court in six petitions seeking directives for Kot Lakhpat jail authorities to allow meetings between the petitioners and their relatives held in six sectarian killing cases. These cases are currently under trial in the anti-terrorism courts.
Muhammad Rafiq and other petitioners had submitted that the jail authorities were for several weeks not allowing them to see their family members. They requested the court to direct the authorities to let them meet their relatives. The six suspects included Qari Asif Mahmood, Abdul Rauf Gujjar, Sabir Shah, Hashim Abdullah, Sheikh Farhan and Rafiullah. They had been arrested last year for murders of Advocate Shakir Ali Rizvi, Arshad Ali Shah, Dr Syed Ali Haider and his son Murtaza Ali, Khurram Raza Qadri and Maulana Shamsur Rehman Muavia.
