SARGODHA:
“Section 144 should be imposed to prohibit kite and pigeon flying. The district government should take action against those endangering Pakistan Air Force’s planes,” said PAF Sargodha Base Commander Sarfraz Khan on Friday.

He was chairing a meeting of the Bird Hazard Control Committee.

Khan said PAF’s planes were valuables assets of the military. “Their protection is a responsibility of all citizens of the country.”

He said collisions with birds could irreparably damage planes that cost millions to induct.

He said over the last five years, 1,215 incidents of bird collisions had been reported. “Several lives have been lost and planes worth millions destroyed.”

“If our planes are brought down by these birds, the enemy would not need to do much to defeat us,” he said.

He said it was important to monitor how citizen’s activities could damage national assets.

He said garbage and animal carcasses should not be dumped around PAF’s take-off and landing zones. He said TMA and Cantonment’s waste should be buried far from PAF’s base.

He said measures should also be taken to control movement of bats around the PAF. He said fish farmers in the area should also be cautious about their practices.

He said the district administration should take measures to curb bird hazard in Tariqabad, Chak 87 and 88, Mitha Masoom, Chak 71 and Dharima.
