The Pakistan Scrabble Association (PSA) is set to establish a base in Lahore, where it will hold its first-ever ranking on Saturday at the FC College with 200 players expected to compete.
PSA Youth Programme Director Tariq Pervez said that Lahore has the potential of taking the lead in the national circuit as the number of players who registered for the event was overwhelming.
“We weren’t expecting more than 50 to 60 players,” Pervez told The Express Tribune. “We’re surprised at the popularity of the game here and unfortunately had to turn down requests from 80 to 90 players to participate due to limited seats at the venue.”
The official further said that the PSA has joined hands with Jahangir Publications, who will represent the association in Lahore.
Pervez added that the PSA, headquartered in Karachi, wants to expand and hold events in different cities. “After Islamabad, we chalked out Lahore as our next destination. We’ve decided to make this an annual competition in the PSA calendar now,” he said.
