The Sindh High Court issued on Thursday notices to the foreign affairs and interior ministries and the director-general of immigration and passport on a petition challenging the issuance of official passports to individuals in violation of passport laws.
The petitioner, Ismat Mehdi, submitted that interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ahmed Khan had disclosed that his predecessor Rehman Malik had issued official passports to individuals in violation of passport laws. The interior minister also announced that such passports shall be cancelled after conducting an inquiry, she added.
The petitioner alleged, however, that instead of taking action against the illegal issuance of official passports, the incumbent interior minister was himself issuing official passports to individuals who did not fulfill the criteria.
The bench, headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, issued notices to the respondent ministries and ordered them to file comments by April 24.
