Time-scale promotions: K-P paramedics threaten to agitate
Demand up-gradation and service mechanism across province
PESHAWAR:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Paramedical Association has announced to launch demonstrations across major hospitals of the province if the provincial government fails to fulfil promises.
Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, KPPA President Johar Ali said the association will protest in hospitals of Peshawar, Mardan and Charsadda if the government does not implement the timescale promotion mechanism. He said Minister for Finance Muzaffar Syed has already approved the service structure for paramedical staff, but the department secretary has put the issue on the backburner.
Ali said Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had also announced promotions for paramedics at hospitals across the province, but little has been done to put into effect the directives of the CM and the minister.
The association’s president said paramedics play a key role in the administration of 24/7 medical assistance at health facilities, yet, they are deprived of their fundamental labour rights. He said the government should ensure reforms are enforced across hospitals.
Flanked by other office bearers, including Sirajuddin Burki and Syed Roidar Shah, Ali said the association will protest at hospitals of Peshawar, Charsadda and Mardan and arrange a sit-in outside Peshawar Press Club on April 15 if the government continues to turn a deaf ear to their concerns, adding government apathy may force them to shut down all hospitals of K-P.
