Judicial commission: Govt’s reply sought against ordinance
Supreme Court of Pakistan already hearing similar petitions
LAHORE:
Lahore High Court on Wednesday gave till May 7 to the federal government to respond to various petitions seeking annulment of General Elections 2013 Inquiry Commission Ordinance of 2015. Justice Ayesha A Malik earlier said that with the Supreme Court of Pakistan already hearing similar petitions, why should the LHC also take up the matter. In response, Advocate AK Dogar referred to several LHC judgments on matters that had simultaneously been taken up by the SCP. The petitions filed by Shoaib Saleem and a lawyers’ association, the Lawyers’ Foundation for Justice, said the ordinance allowing for the constitution of a judicial commission to probe alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections was in violation of the Article 225 of the Constitution.
