LAHORE:

Investigation SSP Rana Ayyaz Saleem told The Express Tribune on Wednesday that the AK-47 rifle from which the bullet that killed Zain Rauf was fired was registered in the name of Mustafa Kanju, the son of a former minister of state.

Another senior police official said a case had been registered against Kanju and his accomplices for attempting to forcibly possess a residence and abducting its owner, Iftikhar.

He said the police had begun investigating the case.  A relative of Iftikhar said Iftikhar and his family had been compelled to flee the country.

He said they would be returning soon to pursue the case.  Kanju had admitted on Sunday to firing shots.
