
A mute girl was allegedly raped by a rickshaw driver in Rajana police area on Wednesday.
Ali Akhtar told The Express Tribune that his 13-year-old niece Faiza*, a resident of Basti Udhan Wali, had been born with impaired speech.
He said she was a student at a school for disabled children at Kamalia. He said her parents had hired a rickshaw to take her to school. Akhtar said the Muhammad Yar, the rickshaw driver, was a resident of the neighbourhood.
He said on Wednesday, when he followed Faiza inside the house when he dropped her off.
He said on seeing that her parents were not home, he overpowered the girl, tied her to a charpoy and raped her. He said he beat her when she resisted.
Akhtar said later, when her brother returned, Muhammad Yar fled. The Rajana SHO said a case had been registered. “The girl has been sent to a hospital for medical examination,” he said. He said a team had been formed to find and arrest the suspect.
