Language issue: AJK district bans channels dubbed in Hindi

The language issue is a serious matter in the divided valley of Kashmir

MUZAFFARABAD:

The local administration has banned four foreign television channels on Monday, not for any content issues, but simply for being dubbed into Hindi.

According to the notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner Office Muzaffarabad, National Geographic, Discovery, Pogo and Cartoon Network, have been banned for three months across the district.

The ban does not affect the original English versions of the said channels which will remain on air as usual in the district that overlooks the Indian Kashmir.

DC Muzaffarabad Masoodur Rehman, while talking to The Express Tribune, said that the people had complained and demanded that ban these channels that air the programmes in Hindi instead of English. The language issue is a serious matter in the divided valley of Kashmir where animosities against the neighbouring country and its language run deep.
