LAHORE:
The Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (Tusdec) has completed the training of the first batch of 25 solar technicians hailing from different districts of Punjab.

With the aim of technological sophistication and skill development to give a push to the industry, Tusdec has joined hands with the Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) to foster the renewable energy sector. The project is being implemented under the Skills for Job 2014-15 programme. It will help develop skills in solar technology among the disadvantaged youth of Punjab.

A company spokesman said Tusdec would enrol 75 candidates hailing from different districts of Punjab including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Sargodha, Gujranwala and Narowal in three batches, who would be trained in the photovoltaic division.

The overall project duration is over one year and each course will be extended up to three months. Tusdec says it has prepared a market-oriented training curriculum and its prime focus is on feasibility designing, site inspection, system sizing, system installation, system handover and troubleshooting of grid-tied, off-grid, hybrid, tube well and lighting systems. This will enable them to serve productively in the industry.

Additionally, the solar lab at the National Institute of Design and Analysis (NIDA) Lahore has been equipped with modern equipment to focus on practical training for expeditious absorption of graduates in the job market.

The spokesman stated Tusdec had integrated modules of safety and entrepreneurship in the curricula for a more effective training delivery. He added Tusdec’s training programme would produce solar technicians, who would set up small workshops and service centres or be in the market as paid employees or freelance technicians to facilitate the industry.

“The development of a productive workforce will lead to sustainable livelihood generation and contribute to catalysing national development,” he remarked.
