In court: SHC summons particulars of SPSC chairperson, members
Petitioner's attorney calls into question chairperson's competence and eligibility for post.
KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued on Friday notices to the provincial authorities to submit the complete particulars of the chairperson and the members of the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC).
A division bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, also directed the provincial law officer to submit the particulars by the next date of hearing.
The two judges were hearing a petition seeking the particulars of the chairperson and the members of the provincial service commission over allegations regarding their eligibility and competence for holding the important public offices.
Their competence to hold the offices has been challenged by a candidate, Imtiaz Shah, who recently appeared in the screening test for the written combined competitive examinations, held by the commission.
The petitioner said he appeared in the screening test in which the answers based on choices for nine miscellaneous questions were wrong. He claimed that the mistakes were brought to the notice of the SPSC chairperson and others responsible. Later, the authorities not only admitted the mistake but also awarded nine grace marks for such questions.
The petitioner's attorney, Shafquat Shah Masoomi, stated that it shows incompetence on part of the chairperson and other members of the department, where the officers were favouring their blue-eyed boys.
He argued that this is a violation of the basic fundamental right of the poor and the downtrodden, who cannot get government jobs as they are being sold against millions of rupees.
The court was pleaded to declare the inclusion of incorrect answers in the written test as incompetence of the SPSC chairperson and its members.
Therefore, it was also requested to call into question the particulars of these high-ranking officers to ascertain if they are qualified enough to hold their posts. If found incompetent, they should be ordered to be removed from their posts, added the petitioner.
The bench issued notices to the provincial chief secretary, the SPSC chairperson and its members. It also issued a notice to the provincial law officer with a direction to submit the particulars of all of these officers by the next date of hearing.
