Wife beaten up ‘for refusing husband money for drugs’

Hussain is also accused of keeping wife locked inside a house in Ahmedpur East for about three hours.

OCH SHARIF:
A man was arrested on Saturday by the Naushera Jadeed police allegedly for beating up his wife on refusal to give him money to purchase drugs.

Hussain was also accused of keeping his wife, 22 year-old Rehana, locked inside the house in Ahmedpur East for about three hours. SHO Irshad Haider Bukhari said that a case had been registered against the accused under Sections 342, 324, 337 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Rehana, an Aaliwayne town resident, was admitted to a hospital in Mubarakpur where she is under treatment. Doctors said that her wounds were deep and infected. They said that she would require more than a month to make a full recovery.

Rehana’s brother Sultan Ahmed told The Express Tribune that the police had initially tried to protect Hussain. He said they arrested him on Saturday night but did not register a case against him. “They have now filed a case because the matter has been reported in the media,” Ahmed added.

Rehana was married to Hussain about four years ago. Talking to the Tribune, her father, Muhammad Aslam said that Rehanna fled from her husband’s house on Friday. “She remained locked inside the house for about three hours before some of the neighbours rescued her,” Aslam said. The neighbours, he said, also helped her board a bus to Aaliwayne town. He said that the family had been aware of Hussain’s addiction to drugs but did not expect him to beat her up so brutally. “He cut her face with a blade when she refused to give him money for drugs,” he said. Aslam said that his son-in-law used to be a wage labourer when he married Rehana. He said Hussain had been unemployed for nearly a year, adding that a few months ago he hed borrowed some money and bought a few sheep but lost them in the floods. He said that Rehana’s job as a domestic helper was the only source of income for the couple.
