High Commissioner of Pakistan (Designate) to Nigeria Agha Mohammad Umer Farooq has expressed hope that trade and export between Pakistan and Nigeria would be enhanced in the future.

Addressing a gathering at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), he said, “Africa is a ‘food warehouse’ and rich in agriculture and the local businessmen must access African markets to avail the opportunities that exist there.”

SCCI President Fazal Jilani, speaking on the occasion, said Pakistan and Nigeria enjoy cordial economic and political relations as they are brotherly Islamic countries.

“Nigeria is a mixed economy and an emerging economic power in the African continent. It has already reached middle income status as a country according to the World Bank,” he said.

“It also has a sound base of natural resources and well-developed financial, legal, communications, transport sectors and stock exchange.”
