Illegal occupation: Govt approves plans to demolish Gulbahar police station
Chief Minister Pervez Khattak issued special directives to the IGP to cooperate with the district administration
PESHAWAR:
The provincial government has approved plans to demolish Gulbahar police station, Additional Deputy Commissioner Usama Ahmad Waraich told The Express Tribune on Friday.
According to Waraich, the district administration was informed last month that the police station had encroached onto the road, restricting traffic flow in the area.
“A meeting was held at the CM House on March 25 in this regard,” he said. “After much deliberation, it was decided that the police station would be demolished.”
Earlier, the revenue department was asked to survey all public and private buildings in the area and submit a report to the Peshawar DC.
“Those buildings which are encroaching onto the road will be demolished,” Waraich said.
Chief Minister Pervez Khattak issued special directives to the IGP to cooperate with the district administration regarding the demolition of the police station.
Cleared away
At least 14 shopkeepers were arrested on Friday from a market in Shahi Bagh by Municipal Corporation, Peshawar officials.
A delegation of shopkeepers met District Municipal Administrator Syed Zafar Ali Shah to discuss the matter. Shah told the delegation the vegetable market had been shifted to Inquilab Road around 20 years back. As a result, the market would not be set up in Shahi Bagh. The district municipal administrator said he would meet the SSP and urge him to take action against police personnel who backed the shopkeepers.
