LAHORE:
Two ordinances – The Disabled Persons Ordinance 2015 and the Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab 2015 Ordinance – and the draft for Fatima Jinnah Medical University charter were introduced in Punjab Assembly.
During the question hour, Minister for Food Bilal Yasin answered questions pertaining to the Livestock and Dairy Development Department. He said almost 100,000 litres of adulterated milk had been intercepted last year. He said the chief minister had issued instructions to monitor milk supply and check for adulterated milk. MPA Nighat Nasir asked if the milk had been adulterated with water or chemicals. Yasin replied that 99 per cent of the adulteration was through water and one per cent with chemicals.
“Pakistan is the world’s fourth largest milk-producing country…around 83,017 tonnes of milk is produced every day,” he said.
Yasin said the Livestock and Dairy Development Department had collected data on 70 million milk-producing cattle in the province. “The data is available online.”
Minister Asif Bha answered questions pertaining to the Punjab Forest Department and Fisheries Department. Answering a question, he said the department had installed 32 security cameras, purchased through formal advertisement, at the Lahore Zoo.
Minister for Law Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman moved a resolution out of turn saying that the terrorist attacks at Youhanabad should be condemned. Several lawmakers demanded that the death of two people in the violent protests that followed the attacks needed to be investigated. MPAs Shehzad Munshi and Zulfiqar Ghauri condemned the terrorist attack and demanded a transparent investigation of the matter. Acting Speaker Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani accepted the joint resolution.
Later, Minister for Finance Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman initiated the pre-budget discussion. The discussion will continue for three more days. After completing the agenda, Gorchani adjourned the session till 2pm on Monday.
