GILGIT: Two policemen were shot dead in the suburbs of Gilgit on Thursday. Police said armed attackers murdered Hussain Iqbal and Manzoom Hussain in the Skwar area at about 6pm and fled. The cops were not in uniform when they were attacked, an official said. Preliminary investigations reveal the policemen were killed over a personal enmity. “This appears to be in retaliation of the recent murder of a soldier,” the officer believed. “There are eyewitnesses to the account.” Iqbal was in the elite police while Hussain worked for special branch and was currently posted at the chief minister secretariat. Police have registered a case and opened investigation.
