ISLAMABAD:
Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani arrived in Islamabad on Monday on a two-day visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The Emir was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including cabinet ministers, chairman of Qatar Airways and senior government officials. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, accompanied by federal ministers including Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, received him at the Islamabad airport where he was given a guard of honour and a 21 gun salute.

During the visit, the Emir will hold talks with President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz. The two sides will discuss ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, including energy, investment, trade, defence and manpower. Regional and global issues of bilateral importance will also be discussed.


Agreements to be signed during the visit will further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation existing between the two countries in various fields.

His visit is said to provide further impetus to bilateral relations between the two countries.

It is his first official visit to Pakistan as the Emir of Qatar. He had visited the country in 2010 as Crown Prince, Radio Pakistan reported.

Earlier, Sheikh had offered financial assistance of Rs.400 million for the people affected by floods.

Qatar is home to more than 100,000 Pakistanis and its remittances are making a valuable contribution to the socio-economic development of Pakistan.
