According to a Levies official, Dilwary led a Levies contingent for a raid on a hideout of criminals in the Racheel area. “Gunmen ambushed the convoy at a desolate place,” he said.
Constable Athaur Rehman and Hawaldar Hazoor Bakhsh received multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot, while four other Levies officials were wounded, he added.
Reinforcement was called in as Levies engaged the attackers. One of the attackers was killed in the gunfight while others managed to escape. “This might have been a trap set by the attackers for DC Dilwary,” an official of the district administration said.
Dilwary did not respond to repeated phone calls by The Express Tribune. Levies have launched a manhunt in the area for the attackers. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
