The Ghotki district and sessions court issued on Wednesday notices to Sarhad police officers, a landlord and his brothers over alleged charges of holding a jirga last Monday in Jalal Lakhan village.

According to sources, the jirga was presided over by Raees Kaloo Lakhan and his brothers, Raees Abdul Malik Lakhan and Raees Muhammad Lakhan. Declaring Manthar Lakhan as karo with Ameeran, the deceased wife of Muhammad Ismail Lakhan, the jirga ordered him to barter his 11-year-old daughter, Khadija, to settle the eight-year-old dispute.

Manthar has refused to abide by the order of the jirga and has filed a petition in the Ghotki district and sessions court through his attorney, Rustam Lakhan. The court ordered the respondents appear in court on March 28.
