Perween Rehman's 'assassin' arrested in Mansehra

Suspect Ahmed Khan alias Pappu Kashmiri was arrested during a joint operation by Karachi and Mansehra police

The alleged assassin of renowned social activist Perween Rehman, who was gunned down in Karachi in 2013, was arrested in Mansehra, police officials confirmed.

"We have arrested Ahmed Ali alias Papu Shah from his house in Kashmiri Bazaar," DPO Mansehra Ehjaz Khan told The Express Tribune.

“The accused has confessed his crime of murdering Rehman and is expected to divulge in further information about his involvement in other target killings and criminal activities that he committed during his stay in Karachi,” a police source told The Express Tribune.


DPO Ejaz said they conducted a raid on an intelligence report regarding Papu Shah’s presence.

“The accused will be presented before the media after Asr prayers, and is expected to disclose his crime to the public,” he said.

Meanwhile, a police source who was a part of the team which raided the suspect’s house said on the condition of anonymity, “The accused has confessed that he assassinated Rehman but on whose instigation he committed the crime is yet to be ascertained.”

Rehman, the former director of the Orangi Pilot Project, was gunned down near Pirabad, Karachi, on March 13, 2013.
