LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge issued non-bailable arrest warrants on Tuesday for seven policemen, who were allegedly involved in an extrajudicial killing.

Petitioner Noorur Rehman told the court that his son Faizur Rehman was taken into custody from near his home in February 2014. “Three days later, I received a phone call from Kotwali police station. Inspector Iftikhar Rasool Bajwa and Nadeem, PSO to SP, directed me to pay them Rs2.5 million for securing my son’s release. I could not arrange the money. Ten policemen killed my son in an encounter,” he said.

At a previous hearing, the judge had directed the policemen to appear in court. However, only three policemen attended the hearing on Tuesday. The court then issued arrest warrants for the seven absent policemen.
