Non-payment of dues: LHC summons chief secretary

The ombudsman and the high court had directed the authorities to release the withheld grant

LAHORE:
Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday summoned the chief secretary over a petition filed against the non-payment of outstanding dues to two widows. Sakina and Mumtaz, both residents of Jhang, stated that their deceased husbands were government employees. “The government stopped paying us the monthly financial allowance in 2005. The ombudsman and the high court had directed the authorities to release the withheld grant,” they said. The district additional collector appeared before the court and asked for more time to pay the outstanding dues. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan expressed displeasure and directed the chief secretary to personally appear before the court at the next hearing.
