BOI seeks investment opportunities in Central Asia

Representatives from Pakistan highlight potential in power and energy sectors.

ISLAMABAD: Set against the backdrop of increasing emphasis on regional economic integration, the first Pakistan-Azerbaijan Business Forum was held in Baku that drew 150 businessmen for exploring trade and business opportunities in both countries. 

This was revealed through a statement issued by the Board of Investment here Friday that also said that the event was attended by Pakistan’s President Mamnoon Hussain and his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev.

The Forum was jointly organised by the Board of Investment (BOI) and Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO). BOI Secretary Iftikhar Hussain Babar, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Secretary Rabiya Javeri Agha and other senior officers from the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Resources and Private Power Infrastructure Board participated in the forum.



The BOI secretary gave a detailed presentation focusing on the investment climate and opportunities for investment in Pakistan. He highlighted the strengths and the promising economic outlook of Pakistan and invited Azeri investors to invest in Pakistan.

Babar additionally pointed out the number of initiatives the government has undertaken to attract foreign investment for exploration of new energy resources and to make the existing power system efficient.

“The government has taken the dual challenges of terrorism and energy crisis head on and significant improvements can be seen on both fronts.”

TDAP secretary also stressed on the tremendous potential that exists between the two countries to further expand trade volume.

Agha stated that pharmaceutical products, surgical instruments, sports goods, defence equipment, readymade garments, rice, fruits and sea food of Pakistan can easily find a place in the Azeri market.
