Patron’s Trophy Grade II: Amir bags three wickets on comeback
Fast-bowler sizzles in first competitive match since 2010
RAWALPINDI/KARACHI:
Pakistani fast-bowler Muhammad Amir showed no signs of rustiness as he made his return after a five-year spot-fixing ban on Friday, bagging three wickets in his first spell in competitive cricket since 2010.
The 22-year-old bowled with pace and aggression to snare three scalps in an opening stint of six overs for the Omar Associates side at the former Test ground in Rawalpindi, next to Islamabad.
Amir was cleared to return to domestic cricket early from his ban for bowling no-balls against England in 2010, but his first match, planned for earlier this week, was rained off.
The three-day match that started on Friday against the Capital Development Authority is part of the Patron’s Trophy Grade II tournament, one level down from first-class.
Meanwhile, Jahangir Shah struck his second century in as many matches, propelling Navy to 408-6 against Sindh Police on day one of their Patron’s Trophy Grade-II match at the UBL Ground in Karachi.
Jahangir scored his 125 in a 233-ball knock, while Babar Agha (74) and Owais Rehmani (69) chipped in with half-centuries. Shiraz Ali picked up three wickets.
In another match, K-Electric finished the opening day on 337-5 in 65 overs against Medicam, with Behram Khan unbeaten on 123 as he struck 12 boundaries. Ramiz Raja Jr (82) and Saad Ali (56) were the other major contributors.
