Rangers operation: Imran backs raid on Nine-Zero

Says stage set for Altaf’s exit as MQM chief

Says stage set for Altaf’s exit as MQM chief.

ISLAMABAD:

A day after Rangers raided the headquarters of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf [PTI] Chairman Imran Khan endorsed the action, saying that the time has come to free Karachi of armed groups and militias.

“It (the raid) is a step in the right direction and should have been taken earlier,” said the PTI chairman in response to a question after a meeting with the NADRA chairman.

Imran stated that the Rangers raid has paved the way to rid MQM of the leadership of Altaf Hussain and added that “Time has come that armed wings of all political parties be eliminated”.  He also said that there are good people in the MQM but they are afraid of Altaf Hussain.

Commending the raid, he said it would help get rid of MQM’s armed wing which had been protecting and patronising criminals. He said that military courts should have a pro-active role until terrorism is eliminated from all across the country, particularly from Karachi, because people do not dare to give evidence against MQM.  He said that authorities should take action against criminals irrespective of party affiliations, adding that, “PTI’s office should also be sealed without wasting any time if arms are found there.”

Briefing the press about his meeting with NADRA chairman Usman Mubeen, he said that the chairman has assured that he will complete the verification process of thumb impressions of NA-122, in line with the order of the court, within one month.

He said that the PTI would introduce biometric voting system for local government elections in K-P and make sure that there is no rigging.
