The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday disposed of a case against nomination of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator-elect Dr Raheela Magsi following withdrawal of the Pakistan People’s Party local leader Nargis Faiz Malik’s petition.
Malik submitted an application before a two-judge bench of the court comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aamir Farooq for withdrawal of her petition.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Malik said that she took the decision as a ‘good gesture’ on the direction of the party chairperson as PML-N supported the PPP candidate for the post of Senate chairman.
On February 28, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had disqualified Magsi after Malik questioned the transfer of the PML-N candidate’s vote from Tando Allahyar to Islamabad. She filed an appeal before the IHC which upheld the ECP decision.
Magsi, however, challenged the IHC decision in the Supreme Court which conditionally allowed Magsi to contest the election. The apex court directed the ECP to withhold the result. The ECP stated that in view of the apex court order notification of Magsi election will be valid only after the final decision of the case.
