Call to invest in human resources
A total of 730 students were awarded degrees at the seventh convocation of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University.
ISLAMABAD:
A total of 730 students were awarded degrees at the seventh convocation of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) here on Thursday. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to 59 students in recognition of their excellent academic performance.
Best Academic Performance Gold Medal was awarded to MS Bioinformatics graduate Nighat Noreen and Jinnah Gold Medal to the university’s best MS Management graduate Aijaz Mustafa Hashmi.
Federal Minister for Education Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali, who was the chief guest, said that extremist elements “through their cowardly acts of suicide attacks on shrines and educational institutions wanted to destabilise the country.” “We all need to fight this war with unity,” he added. The federal minister congratulated the students for their achievements, especially female students, a majority of whom had won medals and distinctions.
Guest of Honour Dr Samar Mubarakmand said the nation could only prosper when its youth were equipped with education. Dr Samar said that defence of the country was stronger and now the entire focus should be on the development of the country’s economy. He said Pakistan had natural resources of copper and gold worth US$ 253 billion.
Balochistan was rich in coal, copper and gold and there was a need to invest in human resources so that natural resources could be utilized to stabilise the economy, he said. The country has done research on nuclear programme in 70’s and missile technology in 90’s and now strenuous efforts are needed to strengthen the economy.
Renowned Scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan said that one must prioritise the interest of the country, whether he is living in the country or abroad. He appreciated the role of the private sector in promoting education and said that private sector institutions are imparting top quality education to students; however, education is useless without its practical application which is quite difficult in the present scenario.
President of MAJU, Dr Abdul Wahab took oath from the students to fulfill their responsibilities by using their best abilities for the progress and prosperity of the nation.
