ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has filed an official complaint against the commissioner of Inland Revenue (Zone-II) Karachi at the Regional Tax Office (RTO) for illegally issuing a tax exemption certificate to a foreign engineering company.

The FBR has initiated an inquiry against the commissioner under the supervision of the chief commissioner at Larger Taxpayer Unit in Karachi for the alleged issuance of an exemption certificate for the period of June 2012 to June 2013.

Income tax commissioner Agha Hidyatullah has been charged with serious misconduct, resulting in huge revenue losses to the national exchequer. He is accused of issuing an authorised certificate to the foreign firm, according to the documents available with the Express Investigation Cell.

“This act of the officer concerned is deemed to be an omission, which renders him liable to departmental disciplinary action,” the complaint reads. Therefore, further disciplinary action is being initiated against Hidayatullah under the Government Servants Efficiency and Discipline Rules 1973.
