Top leaders of both the PPP and PML-N have approached Sardar Akhtar Mengal, the president of his eponymous faction of Balochistan National Party (BNP), in their headhunt for a consensus candidate for the slot of deputy chairman Senate.
“Our party president has received a number of phone calls [from top political leaders],” a senior BNP-M politician told The Express Tribune. “The PPP, ANP, JUI-F, BNP-Awami and other opposition parties agree on nominating Dr Jamaldini of BNP-M for the office of deputy chairman.”
Interestingly, the PML-N has also developed a soft corner for the BNP-M and the party would have no reservations if Dr Jamaldini is nominated, he said. Sardar Mengal will travel to Islamabad Wednesday morning where he will go into consultations with top political leaders, including PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari and ANP’s Asfandyar Wali.
