HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police have drafted a plan for the security of places of worship of minority communities within the Hyderabad range. The plan has been formulated in view of the recent law and order situation and threats posed to these sacred sites.

The Hyderabad DIG recently met all the SSPs of the range to assess the status of the existing security arrangements as well as discuss the measures taken after directives issued by his office in this regard.

According to the report, there are 381 personnel deployed for the security of 157 temples across the range. Additionally, 152 personnel have been deployed for the security of 72 churches. The plan also includes protection of Ahmedi places of worship, for the purpose of which, 15 police personnel have been assigned to security duty.

The report proposes other short-term and long-term initiatives to improve the security of these places of worship. According to the press release issued by the DIG's office, walk-through gates will be installed at all highly sensitive temples at the time of religious festivals. Personnel on police mobiles and motorcycles will patrol the mandir's vicinity. The temples' management committees and Panchayats have been asked to provide festival calendars so that security measures can be adopted accordingly. The plan also involves the installation of CCTV cameras at sensitive temples.

The police have also proposed to install barriers around the highly sensitive temples. The roads along these mandirs will be declared 'red zones'. Additionally, the police have proposed to shift all roadside vendors to a safe distance from the temples as these pose a major security risk.
