CANADA: The head of Canada's spy agency warned that the Islamic State (IS) is spreading to Libya, Pakistan and Afghanistan, CBC News reported.

Speaking to the members of Senate Defence Committee, Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) chief Michael Coulombe said although focus has now turned to IS, we must not forget longer-running groups such as the al Qaeda.

"ISIS started in Iraq and Syria, but what we're seeing now, and you've seen it in media, it's spreading in Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan," Coulombe said adding that "Boko Haram just pledged allegiance to ISIS; so there's also this phenomenon of ISIS spreading."

MK | 9 years ago | Reply @Ashraf: I disagree, In Syria and Iraq, there was/is a Vacuum of Sunni leadership, both militant or political. IS moved in, to fill that vacuum. Both Pakistan and Afghanistan have active Sunni dominated, Islamic political parties. Taliban are very strong in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and Al Qaeda is active, to some extent as well. Considering, Al Qaeda/Taliban alliance and IS are rivals. It will be hard for IS to convince supporters of Al Qaeda and Taliban, to switch sides. And I don't see Mullah Omar pledging allegiance to a rival "Caliph" in Baghdad either.
Ashraf | 9 years ago | Reply Pakistan has the ideal environment for Islamic State activities. All the ingredients are right here. Syria and Iraq do not have anywhere near the same fertile environment as Pakistan.
