ISLAMABAD:

Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif emphasised the need for a robust conflict resolution mechanism, saying its absence led to a devastating war 100 years ago.

He made the remark on Monday during his Lahore visit to commemorate infantry division raising 100 years ago during the First World War.

Gen Raheel said 100 years of WW1 served as a reminder that the international community needed to show urgency in resolving longstanding international disputes that await just resolution, Director General, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Maj Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa tweeted on social media.

While paying tribute to the tradition of soldiering, he said a century of WWI highlighted importance of deterrence and need for operational preparedness, not to promote war but to preserve peace.
