KARACHI:

There was a shortfall of 220 judges in courts across Sindh but most of these have been inducted and are under training, claimed Sindh High Court judge Sajjad Ali Shah on Saturday.

Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) on the city court premises, Shah said that the administrative judiciary was well-aware of the problems faced by the lawyers, litigants and staff in the lower courts.

“A proposed 15-storey judicial complex is under consideration to cater to the needs of 58 courts that are to be established,” he added.

New KBA president Naeem Qureshi shed light on the legal fraternity’s troubles, saying that the security situation was worsening in the courts. He added that the government had given no compensation for any lawyers killed in targeted attacks. Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, who was the chief guest, vowed to extend full support to lawyers and announced a grant of Rs10 million for the KBA.
