LAHORE:

A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Friday accepted for hearing an intra-court appeal seeking the trial of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under Article 6 of the Constitution.

The bench, headed by Justice Aminudin Khan, also issued a notice to the federal government to submit its reply by May 20.

The court was holding proceedings on the appeal of Iqtidar Haider. The petitioner submitted that the prime minister appointed his daughter Maryam Nawaz as chairperson of the Youth Loan Scheme against the regulations.

On the orders of the court, Maryam had to forego this seat. He claimed that her national identity card is Maryam Safdar, but on the notification of her appointment her name was mentioned as Maryam Nawaz.

Haider said that the PM had misused his powers in violation of his constitutional oath. And for this violation, he said, the PM should be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution.

The petitioner had filed this appeal against the order of dismissal of his petition by a single bench of the LHC.
