Women empowerment: LCWU, UN-Women sign MoU

The government is taking effective measures for the economic and financial empowerment of women so that they can play their due role in the development of the country, Minister for Women’s Development Hameeda Waheedud Din said at a ceremony held on Friday to sign an MoU between the Lahore College for Women University and UN-WOMEN. 


Vice Chancellor Sabiha Mansoor, Dr Saira Shahid, Muniba Hashmi and UNWOMEN Country Head in Pakistan Jamshaid Qazi spoke on the occasion.

Waheedud Din said the elimination of gender discrimination was essential for the protection of women’s rights.

She said the MoU between UN-WOMEN and the Lahore College for Women University was a welcome step which would greatly help empower women in the province. Qazi highlighted the challenges faced by women and the UN-WOMEN’s role in improving the situation.

He appreciated various measures taken by the government for the protection of women’s rights. He also assured his full cooperation and assistance in this regard.
