FAISALABAD:

Police said on Friday they had arrested a 25-year-old man for raping a four-year-old girl.

Rafiq Akram, an uncle of the girl, told The Express Tribune that the girl was playing in the street near her house in Ali Housing Colony when Ikram*, a resident of Liaquat Town, abducted her. “He took her to an unfamiliar place and raped her.”

He said people from nearby areas arrived there on hearing the girl’s cries. They caught the man and beat him. He said Jhang Bazaar police rescued the man from the mob. Scores of residents of Ali Housing Colony later staged a protest demonstration on Jhang-Faisalabad Road. They also clashed with police and injured two policemen, police said. The protesters dispersed after SSP Nadeem Hussain and SP Akram Atif assured them that action would be taken against Ikram.
