PIA suspends flight operations to Bangladesh till March 10

PIA spokesperson cited harassment of airline crew and passengers as reason for suspension

Pakistan International Airlines suspended flights operations to Bangladesh on Friday  till March 10, owing to harassment of crew and passengers by Bangladeshi security agencies.

“We have suspended flight operations to Bangladesh till March 10,” a PIA spokesperson said, according to Express News.

Citing harassment of PIA crew and passengers as the reason for suspension, the spokesperson added: “The protest will continue till action is taken.”


On Thursday, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said they have contacted the Bangladesh High Commission seeking clarification the harassment of crew and passengers.

According to PIA sources, Bangladeshi intelligence officers have been harassing PIA officials for the past two months. Yesterday, PIA flight PK-266 was delayed for three hours for security checks.

PIA Station Manager Ali Abbass was also held by the security forces in Bangladesh and was later deported to Pakistan. Several raids have also been conducted on the houses of PIA officials on suspicion of smuggling fake currency.
