PESHAWAR:

The K-P Home and Tribal Affairs department has served notices to 40 private security companies who reportedly do not meet legal prerequisites.

The precarious law and order situation in the province provided a boost to the security sector over the years. Home department sources said the government has decided to regulate all such private firms and make them comply with the K-P Private Security Companies Ordinance 2002.

A department official requesting anonymity told The Express Tribune 82 registered private security companies operate in K-P, out of which 40 have been served show-cause notices.

“They have been asked to clarify their position, failing which their licences will be revoked,” he said. While elaborating on the legal requirements, the official said most companies do not have proper office space and hierarchy of officials and do not pay salaries on time. “Some pay lower than the minimum monthly wage of Rs12,000 fixed by the government,” he said.
