LAHORE:

Police arrested a man and a woman after an 18-year-old girl was shot dead in Bahria Town late on Sunday.

Irum*, a resident of Rahim Yar Khan, was a student of the University of Lahore. She had lived at the university hostel.

Sundar police said they received a call on their helpline from a man, Sajid, who said a girl had been shot dead by his maid at his Bahria Town house.“When we arrived at the scene, Sajid, a lawyer by profession, told us that his maid Sanam had accidently shot and killed Irum. He told us that he had befriended Irum over the internet a few days back,” police said.

A post mortem examination of the body was carried out at a hospital. Later, the father of the deceased filed a complaint.

He accused Sajid of entrapping her daughter and attempting to rape her at his house. “When my daughter put up resistance, Sajid and his maid, shot her dead,” he stated in his complaint.

Investigation officer, Muhammad Afzal, said that the handgun from which the bullet was fired belonged to Sajid. “Sanam first claimed that she had accidentally shot Irum as she was cleaning the handgun. Later, she changed her statement and said that she had murdered the girl out of jealousy because she was in love with Sajid,” he said.

“During the investigation, we found that Sajid had befriended Irum on Facebook. He used to pick her up from university. They used to have lunch at various places in the city. The day she was murdered, they had dined at a restaurant in Gulberg. Sajid had then called his maid on the phone to tell her that he was coming home with Irum,” he said. He said that according to the autopsy report, there had been no rape attempt on the deceased.
