Surveillance footage: Police trace murderers of missing girl

Police said they had used surveillance camera footage at the bus stand to trace the culprits.

LAHORE:

Police claimed on Monday to have traced the murderers of a 20-year-old girl from Sialkot who was killed in Johar Town 40 days ago. Police said the girl was studying at a private university.

She had lived with her maternal uncle for a few days and later shifted to a girls’ hostel on Wahdat Road. Police said the girl had wanted to be a model and had met a makeup artist who promised to put her in touch with the “right people”.  On January 12, the makeup artist invited the girl to her house for dinner. Investigation police said during integration, the makeup artist said that the girl’s cousin had given her a big bag and told her to deliver it to someone in Garden Town.

She said she had suspected foul play and checked the bag. When she saw it was a body, she panicked and dumped it near a bus stand on Bund Road. Police had earlier said that a rickshaw driver, in cahoots with the makeup artist, had tried to rape the girl and killed her when she resisted. They dumped her body at the bus stand the next morning. Police said they had used surveillance camera footage at the bus stand to trace the culprits. Wahdat Colony police had earlier registered a kidnap case against unidentified suspects when the girl had gone missing. Later, Sherakot police booked the suspects under Section 302 (murder).
