LAHORE:

A large number of students and teachers participated on Friday in the ‘Aao Parhao – Jo Seekha Hai Wo Sab Ko Sekhao’ campaign of Express Media Group at the University of Lahore (UoL).

The university hall, where the ceremony was organised, was packed with people, despite the fact that it had rained on Friday.

The campaign encourages students to acknowledge contribution of their teachers and to hold dialogue with young graduates to find solutions to the country’s educational problems.

The UoL Patron-in-Chief MA Rauf told the audience that Express Media Group had played a key role in acknowledging the services of teachers. He thanked the group for launching the campaign.

The UoL Rector Dr Shuja told the audience how he had decided to become a teacher.

“I was in grade eight when I decided to become a teacher and play my role towards nation building. Since childhood, I have been impressed by teachers,” he said.

He said no nation can progress without education. “There is need to find out how we can play our role as teachers for the well-being of society. The solutions to all our problems lie in education,” he said.

Students were asked to write something about their favourite teachers on a large flex showed at the university. An introductory documentary on the campaign was also screened.

Professor Owais Rauf, Professor Syed Saeedul Hasan, Afzal Aleem, Professor Muhammad Bilal Khan, Mahboob Ali Chaudhry, Mughees Ahmad Baig, Shahid Malik, Tauseef Ahmad, Professor Hanan, Professor Aftab Malik, Professor MH Qazi and Syed Gillani were among the UoL teachers, who were given awards in recognition of their services.
