The rainfall would be helpful to the staple food crop and have a positive bearing on minor crop
ISLAMABAD:
The fresh spell of rains would have a positive impact on major and minor Rabi crops in most of the arid and other areas of the country. The rainfall would be helpful to the staple food crop and have a positive bearing on minor crops. Deputy Food Security Commissioner in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research Dr Imtiaz Ali Gopang said that these were the fourth satisfactory showers in a series during the season. Speaking about the cultivated areas across the country, he said that wheat has been sown over 8.94 million hectares against the target of 8.98 million hectares this season. He said that wheat sowing, compared to the same period of last year, showed a decrease of 1% in Punjab, 1.6% in Sindh and 5% in Balochistan. However, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa saw a 2.97% increase in wheat plantations.
