KARACHI:
Youngster Hamza Akbar leads the latest Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) rankings’ chart after winning the 40th National Snooker Championship recently.

The victory gave Hamza 10 points, which was his second national title after he created history in 2013 by becoming Pakistan’s youngest ever national champion at the age of 19. From there on he went onto play in the semi-finals of the U21 World Championship and the Asian 6-Red event hosted by Pakistan last year.

The Faisalabad-based cueist has been making giant strides under the guidance of seasoned professionals Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Sajjad, and is currently one of the best young players in Pakistan along with Asjad Iqbal and Muhammad Majid.

Meanwhile, runner-up Shahram Changezi is second on the table with nine points. Both Hamza and Shahram have qualified for the upcoming Asian Snooker Championship and their participation is subject to the availability of funds.

Former IBSF World Champion Asif sits in third with eight points as he lost the semi-final of the first national tournament of 2015, followed by Muhammad Sajjad on fourth with the same score.

Muhammad Asif Toba is down to ninth with six points to his name.
